Causes of deformation of quartz crucible

Everyone knows that quartz crucibles have many advantages, but if we don't pay attention during our production and use process, it will be deformed. So what are the reasons for the deformation of such crucibles? This article explains the specific content.


1. Improper charging method

1. The contact between the material on the liquid level line and the quartz crucible is in a surface contact state, which may easily cause hanging edges to deform the crucible during the melting process.

2. The upper part is completely filled with small and fine materials. This is easy to occur when melting the material, the lower part is completely dissolved and the upper part is in a crystalline state, causing deformation.


2. Improper melting method

At present, in the production of solar single crystals, heat shield technology is generally used, and the use of heat shield is generally divided into two types: upper hanging type and lower type. There are two reasons for deformation caused by improper melting methods:

1. If the upper first melting method is used in the upper hanging heat shield, the crucible position is lowered to the low level first and the upper material is melted first. This method is easy to cause deformation during the melting process.

2. In the down-hanging heat shield, the upper part is generally not easy to deform, but if the crucible position is not raised in time after the upper silicon material melts and sinks, the bottom will be bulged and deformed.


3. Improper melting power

1. The temperature is too high

Since the melting point of silicon is 1420℃, the general melt temperature is about 1550-1600℃. If the melt temperature is too high, deformation will easily occur during the melt process.

2. The temperature is too low

When the melting temperature of the quartz crucible is low, the contact between the material in the upper part of the crucible and the crucible wall is prone to a melt-like and non-melt-like state. When the lower part of the material melts the upper part of the material, it is pulled down and deformed.


4. Raw material issues

The quality of raw materials is uneven, the impurities contained are much higher than the original polycrystals, and the acid cleaning process is imperfect. This has a great impact on the normal use of the crucible, mainly due to the fact that serious crystallization is prone to occur.


5. Improper operation

During production, cleaning and packaging, crystallization occurs, so that the original thickness will be reduced, and the strength will also decrease, resulting in deformation. In addition, due to improper operation during the process of placing the product and filling the silicon material, it will be deformed if it is contaminated.
